This painting is inspired by traditional portraiture. Throughout history, families have commissioned portraits to display their status and ensure remembrance. Here, I embrace the personality and drama within objects to depict a family-portrait, turning the head on high status by using common place items. Further, this piece brings humor into the space. Each setting, such as the apple hanging by a thread or the rainbow chard drooping over the vase, is meant to evoke a sense of meddling or dramatics that would naturally be shown within a portrait. The alarm clock is caught at "12:12" to symbolize harmony. Whether it is chosen or blood family, when we are in need of comfort it can always be found within our closest relationships. While we may be very different, we all need each other.
